So I visited my undergrad university today, and there have been quite a few changes since I graduated, even since I stopped working there.
But of all the changes, this is the one that I was happiest to see.
I remember when the idea of introducing gender neutral washrooms to the university was first raised. I was at the meeting, arguing for them. It was one of the only times that I encountered undisguised hatred at that university - comments in the meeting and on debate posters throughout the university were saturated with transphobia.
And the comments weren’t subtle, either. They were insulting, even violent in nature. I couldn’t understand how people could be so callous.
So I’m very happy to see that not only are these washrooms present on campus, but they are labelled clearly as trans-friendly.
